I have been working on an Ai project for about 5 months, and we have just rolled out our first test deployment. Everything works after a few days of bug fixing. So now I turn my attention to sample collection I spent the better part of the week building a system that would automatically send any low confidence inferences back to the mothership for further training. It works in the lab on the company network so now I want to test it on the customer network so I need a port forwarded……….. I ask IT for a portforward.
IT dipshit “Why do you need a port forwarded?”
Me “to collect image data in my database!”
IT “We already have a publicly exposed server!”
ME”but I don’t have access to that server. Can you give me access”
IT “No it needs to be secure! You need to talk to this other guy so he can put your stuff on his server for you.”
Me “But I am testing I need control. I can spin up a digital oceans server …….” gets cut off
IT” Out side systems are not allowed, You can’t just put customer information on the internet”
Me “that’s why I need a server on our network that is addressable from there network. It does not need to be powerful I just need database support for one machine for now. I just need this docker container to run some pace I can get to it. So I can continue my work.”
IT “We can’t just poke holes in the firewall for anything you guys want!” walks away.
I am so angry I could just ………..
Obviously my solution is just stop working to bitch about it on reddit, But what do you do to work around IT?
