Sometimes we forget that not every project is the same. This article reminded me that applying date pressure to software projects that need requirements, technology stack and market research done is a good way to end up with some buggy software that nobody needs or wants.
Sadly the vast majority of software projects I’ve worked on in my career had enough new stuff in them that they got hurt by things that got ignored. Those ignored things would finally present themselves in such a way that they could no longer be ignored and in the best case delay the project, and the worst case result in emergency hot fixes – and in one really crazy case, a multi-million dollar check written to the customer with a nicely worded apology.
