I’ve been a dev for 3 years and have gotten used to trial and error to understand new codebases – has anyone laid out a methodical way/steps to break down and tackle new codebases?

Dense books would be great.

I had a similar experience with ‘How to Read a Book’ which improved an ‘obvious’ skill that everyone thinks they have, and now I can comfortably approach very large/dense books. I’d like a similar guide to large unfamiliar codebases beyond ‘just play with it’
