Looking for laptop recommendations for a software engineer. Help pls!

Hi, I’m currently in the market for a laptop. Ideally I would like to spend less than $1,500. The computer will also be getting Linux put on it.

I’m just looking for something with decent battery life and a good looking screen with a decent refresh rate. I would prefer higher res than 1080p but 4k is probably too high. Also, SSD is required. And would like at least 16GB of RAM.

Any suggestions are welcome. I haven’t bough or used a lappy in years.
