I think the only truly useful knowledge is knowing the differences between UDP and TCP. If you want to build a real time video chat application, you would obviously use UDP and use TCP for things like financial transactions. Otherwise, I can’t think of any knowledge in networking that could really be useful as a software developer, especially web developer.
